The formula behind the maximum buy price

Start with expected sale price. Subtract estimated marketplace and promotion fees, seller-paid shipping, other item costs, and the dollar profit you want to keep. Inzoly also calculates a separate ceiling that protects your target profit margin, then uses the lower ceiling.

Maximum buy price = the lower of (sale price − fees − shipping − other costs − target profit) and (sale price − fees − shipping − other costs − target margin amount)

Use a realistic sale price

Base the estimate on relevant sold evidence where possible, not the highest active asking price you can find.

Protect profit and margin

A low purchase price can still be a poor buy when fees, shipping, storage, or slow demand consume the margin.

Compare with the asking price

Enter the store or seller asking price to see projected profit, margin, ROI, and how far the price sits above or below your target ceiling.

Frequently asked questions

Sourcing calculator questions

What is a maximum buy price for reselling?

It is the most you can pay for an item while still leaving room for expected selling costs and the profit or margin target you choose.

Should I use asking prices or sold prices?

Use relevant recent sold evidence when possible. Active asking prices can provide context, but they do not prove what buyers actually paid.

Does the calculator guarantee profit?

No. It estimates a buying ceiling from the inputs you provide. Actual fees, shipping, returns, discounts, demand, and sale price can change the final result.

Before you run the numbers, use the free reseller sourcing checklist to verify condition, sold evidence, shipping, storage, and other risks.
