Reseller inventory guide

How to organize reseller inventory.

Build a simple source-of-truth system that helps you find products, understand costs, and preserve marketplace links as your catalog grows.

Follow the workflow

Six practical steps

Make every item identifiable and findable.

  1. 1
    Step 1

    Create one product record

Record the confirmed brand, category, size or model, measurements, material, condition, compatibility, and description once.

  2. 2
    Step 2

    Assign a unique SKU

Use a short, consistent SKU that identifies the item independently from marketplace item IDs, which can change after relisting.

  3. 3
    Step 3

    Capture the barcode when available

Store UPC, EAN, ISBN, or another barcode as a searchable identifier, but do not rely on it as the only unique inventory key.

  4. 4
    Step 4

    Record quantity and private costs

Track available quantity, cost of goods, inventory source, and acquisition date separately from buyer-facing listing content.

  5. 5
    Step 5

    Give every item a location

Use a repeatable bin, shelf, rack, or room code so the item can be found quickly when it sells.

  6. 6
    Step 6

    Link marketplace references

Keep each channel and marketplace item ID connected to the source product so imports, listing review, and future sold-item workflows have a dependable reference.

A reliable minimum record

At minimum, store a unique SKU, quantity, storage location, cost, source, acquisition date, marketplace source, and marketplace item ID alongside confirmed product facts. Keep private operational data separate from buyer-facing descriptions.

Frequently asked questions

Inventory organization questions

What is the best SKU system for resellers?

The best system is short, unique, easy to read, and stable. A practical SKU can combine a category or source code with a sequence number, while storage location remains in its own field.

Should storage location be part of the SKU?

Usually no. Keeping location separate lets you move inventory without renaming the product or breaking marketplace references.

Which inventory details should remain private?

Cost of goods, acquisition source, acquisition date, internal notes, and storage location should remain private unless the seller intentionally uses a detail in buyer-facing content.

Can Inzoly show where and when a barcode sold?

Complete barcode-based sold history is planned. The current beta can store barcodes and marketplace references, but it does not present full cross-channel sold history as a complete live capability.
